Biomedical Sciences graduate from EPM-UNIFESP. He completed undergraduate research internships (PIBIC-CNPq and FAPESP fellow) in neuropharmacology (group of Prof. Dr. L. E. Mello) and electrophysiology of ion channels (group of Prof. Dr. M. Arcisio-Miranda). In the same group, he did his master’s (CAPES fellow) with patch-clamp studies and the membranolytic action of peptides. PhD in physiology (CNPq fellow), investigating synaptic plasticity in the visual cortex via whole-cell patch clamp in slices (group of Prof. Dr. R. de Pasquale, ICB-USP). Postdoctoral research in human psychophysics and electrophysiological recordings (FAPESP fellow; group of Prof. Dr. G. Rohenkohl, IB-USP). He currently studies cognition in non-human primates (NHPs) with in vivo electrophysiological recordings and behavioral tasks in the group of Prof. Dr. Sergio Neuenschwander (Brain Institute, UFRN). He has been a Pioneer Science fellow since 2025.

About the research:

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is associated with severe cognitive losses and may affect up to 70 million people in the coming years. Despite major scientific advances using different techniques and models, it is still poorly understood how changes in the dynamics of neural oscillations contribute to its pathophysiology. In our project, we will develop an AD model in NHPs and longitudinally track neural and behavioral changes throughout the disease’s progression. Because of their phylogenetic proximity and complex cognitive abilities, NHPs allow us to investigate neural activity and behavior simultaneously. We will perform chronic electrophysiological recordings during visual tasks, examining the relationship between cortical oscillations, perception, and attention. The goal is to understand how neural oscillations are compromised and to identify early markers of AD.
