About IMPA

Founded in 1952, the Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA) is a teaching and research unit linked to the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation and the Ministry of Education. Its mission is to carry out advanced research in pure and applied mathematics, to offer graduate programs, and to promote the dissemination of mathematics.

One of its best-known initiatives is the Brazilian Mathematical Olympiad of Public Schools (OBMEP). Beyond encouraging the study of mathematics, the program reveals outstanding talent in the field.
