Welcoming Stanford University — Visit by virologist Jeffrey Glenn

A respected gastroenterologist and molecular virologist at Stanford University, Jeffrey Glenn visited Brazil at the invitation of Pioneer Science. During his stay between March 14 and 17, the scientist visited Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo and engaged with local scientists, exploring the research advances carried out in the laboratories of Instituto D’Or de Pesquisa e Ensino (IDOR) in both cities.

As a research leader in molecular virology at Stanford, Glenn is dedicated to the pursuit of innovative antiviral therapies and to studying the mechanisms of viruses such as HDV (hepatitis D) and influenza. Alongside Glenn, the visit also featured Victor Geddes, a researcher and CP grantee. With a background in genetics and molecular virology at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Geddes is now carrying out his postdoctoral research at Stanford under Glenn’s supervision, focusing on developing antivirals to combat arboviruses — viruses transmitted by insects, such as the dengue virus.
