About the research:

Innovative studies on hormone actions in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Seminal work was carried out on the mechanisms that lead to defective insulin signaling in Alzheimer’s disease. One of her recent studies showed that irisin, a hormone linked to exercise, has a protective action in AD, a publication that received wide interest from the scientific community and the media worldwide. Her studies, together with clinical observations, contribute to understanding how neuronal dysfunction occurs in the brains of AD patients and how lifestyle interventions, particularly physical exercise, have the potential to preserve brain health and prevent or delay AD.
