Sobre

Veterinary Medicine graduate (2013) and Master’s in Physiological Sciences (2015), both from the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ). PhD in Biological Sciences (Physiology) from UFRJ’s Carlos Chagas Filho Biophysics Institute, with a sandwich period at the Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine, University of Iowa, USA (2017–2018). He served as an Adjunct Professor at UFRRJ (2019–2023) and is currently an Adjunct Professor at UFRJ’s Carlos Chagas Filho Biophysics Institute. He is part of the Precision Medicine Research Center, conducting studies on the biological mechanisms of aging, with an emphasis on cardiovascular homeostasis, aging biomarkers, and advanced therapies for age-related diseases.

About the research:

Population aging poses challenges for health planning due to the high prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) among adults aged 60 and over (60+). Cardiovascular diseases are the main cause of morbidity, mortality, and financial impact on Brazil’s public health system (SUS) in this age group. Although part of the population ages in a healthy way, around 75% of those aged 60+ have at least one NCD, whose mechanisms remain poorly understood. Recent evidence points to changes in circulating factors across the lifespan, including extracellular vesicles (EVs), which reflect the allostatic load of aging. This project seeks to identify factors associated with healthy aging and to develop therapeutic strategies to delay age-related NCDs, focusing on the role of EVs in cardiovascular aging.
