About the research:

Recent literature in cognitive neuroscience has investigated the neural correlates of belief formation and rigidity. Dogmatism, understood as resistance to alternative perspectives even in the face of contrary evidence, has been studied mainly in ideological and religious contexts. However, cognitive biases such as belief perseverance and confirmation bias suggest that similar rigidity may also occur within scientific communities. This project examines whether physicists and Catholics show similar emotional responses when confronted with statements that challenge core convictions in their belief systems. To this end, it compares physiological measures, behavior, and brain activity.
